Attendance

Please note, policies are available on our school policy page and our statutory trust policy page.

Good attendance (96% or better) is expected at KPJA.  If your child is unable to attend due to illness please notify the school office on 01536 411208 and leave us a voicemail before 8:30am.  There is a 24-hour telephone answering service to enable you to report an absence at any time before the day of absence.

If your child needs to take time out of school for any reason, please complete a leave of absence form. You can request a form at the office or download one by clicking 'Forms' to the right of this page.

Any application for leave of absence must only be in exceptional circumstances. From 1st September 2013, a new law gives NO entitlement to parents to take their child on holiday during term time. Headteachers would not be expected to class any term time holiday as exceptional. Other instances of unauthorised leave of absence could be leaving school early for a siblings' appointment, being absent due to head lice, being late after 9:30am 10 sessions in a 6 week period, a routine dental check up or refusing to come to school.

Penalty notices for non-school attendance - To issue a penalty notice, there should be 5 days (10 sessions) or more unauthorised absences in a 6 week period.

Penalty notices for term time absence - To issue a penalty notice, there should be 5 days (10 sessions) or more of consecutive unauthorised absence.

Parents can be fined by the Local Authority and the initial Fixed Penalty Notice of £60.00 will be issued to each parent for each child (i.e. two parent family, two children = £240.00). Please ensure you keep us up to date about any absences your child has.
