What a wonderfully busy and productive eight weeks we’ve had this autumn term! The children have been working incredibly hard, and it’s been a joy to see how much they are enjoying their learning across the school.

We were very fortunate to be offered a free pantomime performance of Beauty and the Beast for our Year 3–5 pupils — it was a fantastic experience, full of laughter and excitement, and the children absolutely loved it. Our Year 6 sadly missed out but understood that they have many things to look forward to, just for them, later in the academic year.

Looking ahead to next term, our Year 4 children are eagerly anticipating their residential trip to Whitmore Lakes, where they’ll take part in a range of outdoor adventure activities — a brilliant opportunity for building confidence, teamwork, and independence. We’re also thrilled to announce that Skiing Paralympic athlete and sports star Sean Rose, will be visiting our school to speak to the children about his journey and achievements.

A quick but heartfelt plea from our PTA: our children absolutely love the events that the PTA organises — from school discos to our magical Winter Wonderland — but these can only happen with your help. Unfortunately, our volunteer sign-up sheet in the office currently has zero names. Please, if you’re able to spare some time, do consider volunteering. Even a small contribution of time makes a big difference to what we can offer the children.  The next PTA meeting will be held on Monday 4th November at 5.30pm, and we would love to see as many of you there as possible. We offer coffee and tea!

Finally, I’m off to see the fabulous entries in our Pumpkin Carving Competition — I can’t wait to see all the creative designs! Wishing you all a wonderful, restful, and well-deserved half-term break.

Warm regards,
Mrs Walker

 Headteacher

Class 3 have been very busy this term. The children have been using their Design and Technology (DT) skills to create their own unique cushions. They began by practising basic sewing techniques, including running stitch and cross stitch, to build their confidence and accuracy.

Once they had mastered these skills, they designed their own cushion, made templates, and planned how they would bring their ideas to life. To make their cushions more attractive and personalised, they used appliqué techniques to add decorative shapes and patterns.

Finally, they combined all their skills to stitch and assemble their cushions, resulting in beautifully finished products they are proud of.

Year 4 have been learning about sound in science this term. They have carried out lots of experiments including, sound insulation, volume, exploring sound from near and far and recording the data using decibel meters.

They enjoyed making musical instruments of their own then using them to play along to some background music.

Year 5 have settled in brilliantly and have had a very busy start to the term. We’ve been exploring a wide range of topics — from the Titanic and Vikings to The Highwayman, materials in science, basketball, and portraits in art.

Our Titanic topic has been a real highlight. The children learned about the ship’s construction, its Maiden Voyage, and the events of its tragic sinking. Everyone received a “ticket” that determined which class they travelled in — and there were some surprised faces when a few discovered they’d be sharing a cabin with up to eight people!

In history, we’ve been diving into the fascinating world of the Vikings. The children discovered how the Vikings weren’t just fierce warriors, but also skilled traders and settlers. We even brought some of their stories to life through drama activities, which the class thoroughly enjoyed.

In art, our focus has been on portraits. The children have been experimenting with different materials and techniques to see how they can create a variety of effects. The results have been fantastic, and it’s been wonderful to see their creativity shine.

And of course, we’ve been keeping active with basketball, learning new skills, teamwork, and coordination.

It’s been a busy and exciting start to the year — and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the term brings!

We have been very busy in Year 6 this term!

Something the children have particularly enjoyed in their Spanish learning is role-playing ordering sandwiches and pizzas. We are excited to be sharing this learning with you in our class assemblies next term! The children have chosen their favourite breads, pizza flavours and toppings and are now prepared to order these themselves in Spanish. Muy bien, clase!

The children have also enjoyed their art and design learning this term. We have tried everything from close-up photography of cabbages and broccolis to creating our own music album covers in the style of different artists. The children have really showcased their attention to detail and creativity.

Congratulations to all of our Year 6s who have made a fantastic start to the school year. Bring on Term 2!
