Although it has been a short term, it has been a very busy and productive one, with many wonderful achievements across the school.
A particular highlight has to be National Science Week. We were delighted to welcome a visiting scientist who truly wowed us all with his exciting experiments demonstrating the power of air. One unforgettable moment was when he managed to move the highest curtains in the hall by firing air from one end to the other—something that left us all amazed! The children were then inspired to carry out their own experiments back in the classrooms, continuing the spirit of curiosity and discovery.
World Book Week was another fantastic success. The children impressed us all with their creative and imaginative costumes, and the week was filled with a wide range of engaging activities. I especially enjoyed our Drop Everything and Read sessions, as well as the Book and Biscuit morning. It was wonderful to see so many family members joining us and sharing in the joy of reading.
Our Year 4 pupils are currently rehearsing for the INMAT Big Sing, which will take place at the Derngate Theatre in Northampton this May. Please keep an eye out for tickets when they become available on the Derngate website. Having attended this event over the past few years, I can say it is always a truly uplifting celebration of music, bringing together schools from across the INMAT Trust.
Finally, I would like to wish all our families a relaxing and chocolate-filled Easter break.

Year 3 have had an exciting and enriching term filled with memorable learning experiences. As part of our Religious Education lessons, we went on a visit to St Andrew’s Church. The children explored the Easter story through a fun and interactive experience, bringing the story to life and deepening their understanding. Following on from our careers day last term, we also enjoyed a special visit from a police sergeant, who spoke about their role in the community and the children were thrilled to have the opportunity to look inside a real police van. We enjoyed an interactive science assembly from Sublime science. The children built upon their knowledge of air and vibrations, by watching different experiments.
In history, their topic this term has been how children’s lives have changed over time. They explored the differences between their own lives and those of children in the past and particularly enjoyed a trip to Holdenby House, where they experienced what life was like as a Victorian child.

Wonderful Writing!
This term in writing, Year 4 have been focusing on explanation texts! Our writing has been linked to the digestive system. The children have worked really hard when explaining how the different parts of the digestive system work together to help us to break down food!
The children have loved making their paragraphs sound disgusting! Throughout the unit, they have really thought about their reader and how they can help them to be able to picture what is happening. Well done Year 4!!
Mechanical cars - DT!
In DT this term, the children have been creating different cars. They have made 3 different versions of the cars to see which car would travel the furthest! It has been really fun to try the different methods to create the cars and to compare which is the best! This week, we are going to evaluate our cars and decide which is our favourite and which one travelled the furthest.

Year 5 have had a busy and exciting term, packed with a wide range of engaging activities across the curriculum.
In Design and Technology, the children cooked a delicious Bolognese sauce, developing key cooking skills and confidence in the kitchen. The highlight was taking their finished dishes home to share—truly a “sauce-sational” success!
World Book Day was a wonderful celebration of reading. As part of the day, we “dropped everything and read,” giving pupils the chance to fully immerse themselves in their favourite books and enjoy the magic of storytelling together as well as enjoying a Book and Biscuit morning with parents!
During Science Week, pupils also investigated air resistance by designing and testing their own “perfect paper planes.” They experimented with different shapes and sizes, carefully observing how their designs affected flight distance and speed. It was fantastic to see such creativity and problem-solving in action as they refined their ideas and aimed for the ultimate high-flyer!
We also enjoyed an exciting visit from the police, which was a real highlight of the term. Pupils had the opportunity to explore the inside of a police van, hear the sirens up close and even try on pieces of uniform. It was a fantastic hands-on experience that sparked lots of curiosity and enthusiasm, giving children a memorable insight into an important role in our community.
Overall, it has been a fantastic term full of energy, curiosity and achievement. Year 5 should be very proud of all they have accomplished, and we look forward to even more success next term.

Year six have had a busy term. We have been celebrating world book day, Science week and also went on a visit to the National Holocaust Museum in Newark. The children and staff took part in dressing up as their favourite book character, they went to a lot of effort. For science week we did an experiment with toast to see if it lands butter side down.
Whilst on the museum visit, the children had the chance to imagine being a child in WWII and how as a Jewish child in Germany you would have been treated. We followed Leo’s Journey which took us through his home, into his school room, into the street after Kristal Nacht and Kinder transport. In each area the children saw and handled objects, read descriptions and listened to exhibits that brought the time period to life. They also laid a stone in memory of the Jewish children that dies during this time. It was very moving and thought provoking. The children have been writing a diary entry following on from this visit.

It was
very exciting when Northamptonshire Police came to spend time with us!
The children were absolutely thrilled to meet the officers and learn all about how the police help to keep us safe. They talked about important topics such as personal safety, who to go to for help, and what a typical day in the life of a police officer looks like.
Our pupils were fantastic throughout the session—listening carefully, showing great respect, and asking some truly brilliant questions! ?? From curious thoughts about police equipment to thoughtful questions about helping others, it was wonderful to see such enthusiasm and engagement.
There were plenty of smiles and laughter too, especially when Mr Fortune volunteered.
A big thank you to the officers for taking the time to visit us and inspire the children. It was a memorable experience for everyone involved! ??

This term has been packed with exciting extra-curricular sports! The Year 5/6 girls have continued to enjoy their weekly football sessions every Thursday at KLV, alongside taking part in archery, basketball and kurling competitions. Pupils also had great fun at an invasion festival, where they tried eight different mini-games including tag rugby, hockey, sprinting and golf.

It has been Science week at KPJA! Across the school, each year group has been busy taking part in exciting and hands-on investigations. These activities encouraged curiosity, creativity, and teamwork, while helping pupils think like real scientists. From testing floating boats to exploring food tastes and experimenting with flight, every class had the chance to ask questions, make predictions, and discover something new.
|
|
Year 3
Year 3 had great fun designing and making paper boats. Their challenge was to see how many marbles each boat could hold before sinking. The children carefully tested different shapes and sizes, learning about balance, weight, and floating. There was lots of excitement as they counted the marbles and compared whose boat was the strongest!
Year 4
Year 4 explored whether perfect-looking strawberries really taste better than wonky, imperfect ones. The children tasted a variety of strawberries and shared their opinions. They discovered that appearances can be deceiving, and many were surprised to find that the imperfect strawberries tasted just as delicious—if not better!
|
|
Year 5
In Year 5, pupils became engineers as they designed and built their own paper aeroplanes. Their goal was to create a plane that would stay in the air the longest. After testing their designs, they made improvements and tried again. The activity helped them understand how shape and design can affect flight.
Year 6
Year 6 carried out a fun and slightly messy experiment to investigate whether toast always lands butter-side down. By dropping pieces of toast in different ways, they observed and recorded the results. This sparked lots of discussion about fairness in testing and why certain outcomes might happen more often than others.
