Dear Families,

This newsletter is a reflection of this busy term—have a read! We are excited to share the latest happenings at our school. This past month has been filled with wonderful learning experiences, and we are proud of our students' hard work and achievements. Thank you for your continued support in making our school a fantastic place for learning and growth.

We also say a sad goodbye to Mrs. Harris, Year 4 Class 5 teacher, and extend a warm welcome to Mr. Clements, who will be taking over her class. Additionally, we bid farewell to Mrs. Mitchell, who, having been with us for a short while, is returning to the Infants. We wish them all the best in their new roles!

We are concerned that some parents appear unaware of school expectations, so please take a moment to review the reminders section.

Have a wonderful break, and we look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, April 23rd!

Kind regards

Mrs Walker

Year 3 have been really busy this term! We have looked at how children's lives have changed from the Tudor and Victorian times and how it compares to today.

In Science we have been looking at different parts of a plant, and began to think about how photosynthesis helps us to breathe oxygen - we found this really interesting.

We had a lot of fun on careers day! A prison officer came in and spoke to us about how much he loves his job in the prison service, Mrs burns spoke to us about what careers you can get if you speak in different languages, but our favourite was the Kettering fire station service came and showed us their uniforms an showed us their equipment!

We also really enjoyed science week where we looked at different types of materials being flushed down into the toilet. It was so interesting to watch the experiment!

This term in DT we have been looking at mechanisms. The children have made 3 prototype model cars. The first one focussed on how it would move on an inclined ramp. The second focussed on building a slingshot car. The children really enjoyed building this one as they then released them in the hall to measure the distance it travelled.  However, the final car was not as much as a success as the others. The wind-up mechanism did not seem to be powerful enough to motor the car. This was discussed in our evaluation, what could we change next time?

Overall, the children have enjoyed the unit and have learnt a lot about car design.

This half term has been jam packed in year 5!

We kicked off our topic of the Ancient Greeks during the first week with our Greek Day. We had great fun coming to school in our various outfits (we even had a Medusa). We learnt about the origins of the Greek gods which included the father, Cronus, eating majority of his children except from Zeus who rescued his siblings. We then split into groups looking at the many mathematical puzzles of the Greeks and the strategy games they had made. In the afternoon, we joined back up to look at the weapons and armour of a Greek Soldier, this included: spears, arrows (with different types of arrowheads), swords and shields.

Throughout the term, we have been completing a DT unit on cooking. Our focus was to learn to prepare and cook a pasta sauce but then challenged to adapt the basic recipe to improve nutrition and overall taste. We learnt the safety of using the hob and knives, the various grips in order to safely chop vegetables and, ultimately, how to create a tasty sauce!

Since January, Year 5 have been completing an NMPAT programme on ukeleles. We learnt different notes and strumming patterns in order to play a variety of songs. We ended our programme last week with a big concert in the hall. It was a big success!

his term, Year 6 have had an exciting term. In writing, we have been creating informative newspapers based on real events. The Year 6 team have created a murder mystery in school which the children investigated and reported on.

In DT, the children have begun to create their own steady hand games, incorporating electrical circuits to power a buzzer.

Alongside our core learning, Year 6 have considered their future aspirations when inviting a range of professionals to KPJA to share their jobs. We heard from nurses, lawyers, scientists and counsellors.

We also celebrated World Book Day on a similar theme, dressing up as our favourite inspirational people from history using the amazing book series, Little People Big Dreams.

Firstly, thank you to everyone who attended the World Book Day disco. Thanks to your generosity, we managed to raise a massive £500!!

All our fundraising is going towards some amazing projects in the future, as well as providing all of our year 6 leavers with a hoodie. They will receive these in time for their residential trip to Govilon.

We are working with a group of children in the school eco group, purchasing new equipment for the garden, including a big project for the summer term that includes redesigning and decorating the school playgrounds.

Thank you for all the egg donations. We were amazed at the sight of so many Easter eggs. An Egg-cellent £441.91 was raised! Well done everyone.

Thank you to everyone for your continued support. We can only do these things for the school with your help.

This term we bid a fond farewell to Mrs Harris. She is off to pastures new and we wish her the all the very best at her new school.

In turn we welcome our new class 5 teacher, Mr Clemments. Mr Clemments joins us from Wollaston primary and the children of class 5 are very excited to get to know their new teacher.

Our girls have done us incredibly proud over the last 12 weeks, finishing in second place in the Kettering Town FC football league. They have worked as a team to challenge the very best schools in Kettering and surrounding villages to claim a podium finish.

Mr Hackett, Mr Lynham and Mr Oliver have really enjoyed this journey with the girls this term, and we look forward to seeing them all (hopefully) continue playing football. Well done girls!
